Dr. Victor Lamptey attended Mfantsipim Secondary School and later the University of Ghana where he obtained his B.A. (Hons) degree in Spanish and French. In the course of this, he pursued Spanish and French studies in the Universities of Puerto Rico and Dakar respectively. He obtained his “Licenciatura en Letras” and Doctorate in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, where later, in 1985, as a visiting scholar, he delivered a series of lectures on the stylistic attributes of Negroid Literature.
In 1984, he was decorated by the King of Spain with the “Knight of the Order of Isabel la Católica” for his contribution to scholarship. He received the Best Teacher Award (Humanities), 2003 of the University of Ghana. For some 20 years, he was the Coordinator of the Spanish Section of the Department of Modern Languages of the University of Ghana and later Head of the same Department and Chairman of the Board of Management of the Ghana Institute of Languages. He retired from the University of Ghana after some 46 years of service.
